Port of Evil (2003)

Port of Evil (2002) was one of the six scarezones that were featured during Halloween Horror Nights: Islands of Fear. It was located in the Port of Entry.

History and Location[]

In 2002, a character named The Caretaker would be the icon for the event. Universal decided to have guests feel his presence immediately as they entered the event, and so the Port of Evil scarezone was created. It would be located in the Port of Entry, the entrance area to the park that is also between Marvel Super Hero Island and Seuss Landing.

However, before The Caretaker was chosen to be the icon, Cindy was originally planned to be the icon. Port of Evil would instead keep the name Port of Entry and would have featured Cindy's face on a fog "curtain" at the entrance to the scarezone. Weird misshapen creatures were planned to roam the streets and a large map would appear at the end of the street.

The name Port of Evil would return the following year, but the scarezone would change quite a bit.

Description[]

Enter an eerie, mist-shrouded port city where unseen creatures and unspeakable horrors lurk around every corner.

Experience[]

This was the first of The Caretaker's horrors when they ventured into his Islands of Fear.

First they would have to pass a screen that was put in place. The screen showed The Caretaker and his minions (including Carnage) talking about the mysteries of adventures that took place in each island.

Walking through, guests would meet ghosts from an early time. Various torture devices were strewn about the streets. These included gallows, a spikey chair, the rack, and an iron maiden with buzz saws. The scareactors in this scarezone would torture victims on these devices. The Caretaker himself also appeared in the scarezone, walking high above everyone using stilts. There was also a giant inflatable pumpkin, and a banner showing The Caretaker's face.

Trivia[]

  • The music that was being played was the theme for The Thing, Dracula's Castle by Josh Beal and the soundtrack of Screamhouse itself.
  • Before Cindy was replaced by The Caretaker as the icon for the event, the screen projected at the entrance originally showed Cindy's face asking the guests to play with her. The scareactors seemed to be different to, with "oddly misshapen creatures" originally being present instead of ghouls dressed in Victorian-era clothing.
  • Originally, there would have also been a 12 foot long map stitched of human skin and lit by torches at the end of the scarezone, though this would later be scrapped when the Caretaker became the icon.
