Tombs of Terror was one of the three haunted houses that were featured during Halloween Horror Nights VII: Frightmares. It was located in the Earthquake Queue.

History and Location[]

Halloween Horror Nights VII would mark the fourth year that Universal decided to place a haunted house in the large extended queue for the Earthquake attraction. This time, the house would be themed to New Orleans (like one of the floats in The Festival of the Dead Parade and some parts of the Midway of the Bizarre scarezone). Reportedly, this house was a dual house, with two different entrances leading into two technically different haunted houses.

Description[]

A terrifying journey into a New Orleans cemetery leads you deeper and deeper into the dark world of blood-thirsty vampires, murderous mutants and deranged, chainsaw-toting maniacs.

Terror begins at a dilapidated New Orleans funeral home. Suddenly, visitors are trapped in the funeral home after night falls. The employees seem confused and do not know who is dead and who is not, or what to do with the living after the sun goes down. Terror really begins when visitors fall into an open grave and end up underground; in the middle of the darkness and surrounded by evil things that are there.

Queue and Facade[]

The map seemingly shows the entrance of this house being to the left of the entrance for Beetlejuice's Graveyard Revue. The queue would most likely go to a backstage area behind the Earthquake building, where the line would loop around multiple times before entering the Earthquake building from the back. It is likely that the line went along the left side of the Earthquake building. According to concept art, the facade was the elaborate entrance to a building, with marble pillars and segmented, broken glass windows.

Walkthrough[]

According to a comment on this video, the house may have been a dual house, meaning that the line split in two when reaching the entrance (which was apparently set in a living room) and guests got to pick which way they went. The left side apparently lead to a kitchen scene. In the kitchen there was apparently a scareactor hiding behind a refrigerator who controlled two large hairy hands as puppets. After that guests would make a left term where they could see many different kitchen appliances on the left a butcher behind a table who would slam a meat cleaver on the table repeatedly on the right.

Concept art shows that one room featured four people carrying black umbrellas mourning over a coffin, and another featured the Rat Lady banging on the glass in a glass-covered hole in the wall behind some pipes. The house was themed to New Orleans, and featured vampires, pirates, ghosts, and zombie soldiers. The house would first take you through an old funeral home and then into many mansions located in New Orleans. The house would also take guests through a cemetery, the swamps (where swamp monsters and vampires lurked), and through the streets of the famous town. According to the video comment, the finale scene was right after the graveyard, when the two lines re-merged. In the climax, a bunch of chainsaw-wielding scareactors scaring guests around a car.

There was also a scene that involved guests walking into a grave while a gravedigger shovels dirt onto their head. The smell was reportedly that of old dirt.
