The Universal Classic Monsters are fictional characters popularized by Universal Studios in a number of famous horror films. The approach began with the 1923 film version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and continued to encompass such movies as The Phantom of the Opera, Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Mummy. With the advent of Halloween Horror Nights, the characters found a new place in the company, appearing in haunted houses/mazes at both events.

In Hollywood, the monsters have appeared five times in mazes, and have, since 2006, appeared in the year-round attraction, Universal's House of Horrors.
